Package prices: USD rates for Caribbean and North America sailings as reported by CruiseMummy (updated June 2026); MSC no longer publishes package prices publicly, so confirm in your booking. Last checked October 2026. Packages generally must be bought for every night and by every adult in the cabin. Alcohol packages cap at 15 alcoholic drinks per day and drinks priced up to $16.

How the math works

Paying as you go means every drink you order at its menu price, plus the 18% service charge MSC adds to bar purchases on US-dollar ships, multiplied by the number of nights.

A package is a flat price per person per night with the gratuity already included. Prepaying before you sail is cheaper than buying onboard, and cruises of 7 nights or more get a lower nightly rate than shorter ones.

The break-even figure is how much you'd need to spend on drinks each day, at menu prices, for the package to pay for itself. If a normal day for you comes in under that number, the package costs you money.

Rules that change the answer

  • If one adult in a cabin buys an alcohol package, every adult sharing that cabin generally has to buy the same one. Run the numbers for the lightest drinker, not just the heaviest.
  • You pay for every night of the cruise, including port days when you may be ashore most of the day.
  • Alcohol packages cover up to 15 alcoholic drinks a day. For a drink priced above the package's per-drink cap, you pay the difference.
  • Guests under 21 on North American sailings take the Minors package if the adults buy one.
